Public Education Programs
These public events and classes are free and open to everyone. Please call 703-228-6414 to register for classes.

Lawn Care Basics for the Spring
Come learn how to save time and money on lawn care while protecting the Chesapeakd Bay Watershed. These informative classes are sponsored by the Virginia Cooperative Extension and conducted by Master Gardeners of Northern Virginia. Soil Testing kits will be available. Two dates and and locations in Arlington:
  • Saturday, March 13, 9:30AM at Fairlington Community Center, 3308 S. Stafford St., Arlington, VA 22206
  • Tuesday, March 16, 7:00PM at Glencarlyn Library, 300 S. Kensington St.,



Plant Clinics
Local MGNV Plant Clinics open soon! Gardening help can be obtained year-round through the Master Gardener Help Desk at 703-228-6414.
Days for weekly plant clinics are as follows:
  • Saturday mornings, 8:00-11:00 a.m. -- Arlington Farmer's Market, North Courthouse Road and North 14th Street - beginning Saturday, April 17( Directions/Map)
  • Thursday evenings, 7:00-9:00 p.m. -- Arlington Central Library, 1015 North Quincy Street - beginning late April (Directions/Map)
  • Saturday mornings, 6:30-9:30 a.m. -- Alexandria Farmer's Market, 301 King Street, Market Square - beginning May 1 (Directions/Map)
  • Saturday mornings, 8:30-11:00 a.m. -- Del Ray Farmer's Market, Mount Vernon and East Oxford Avenues - beginning May 1 (Directions/Map)

American Horticultural Society
April 15, 16, & 17
At the AHS’s annual plant sale at River Farm, more than 30 vendors will be providing a variety of new and uncommon trees, shrubs, herbs, perennials, annuals, and other plants.
AHS members presenting a valid membership card may attend the preview sale from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 15. The public is welcome on April 16 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on April 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parking is free for AHS members and $3 for non-members. All proceeds from the annual plant sale support the stewardship of River Farm and the Society's educational programs. For additional information, call (703) 768-5700 ext. 114 or visit www.ahs.org.

Friends of the National Arboretum
April 23 & 24, 2008
FONA's signature outreach event, visit the 2010 Garden Fair for a unusual selection of plants selected by our dedicated experts, gather growing advice from USNA curators and FONA gardeners extraordinaire, and enjoy activities celebrating all the promises that Spring gardening brings. FONA members enjoy early access on Friday, April 23, from 11am to 6pm. The sale is open to the general public on Saturday, 9am to 4pm. Proceeds from the annual plant sale support the educational programs and intern program at the U.S. National Arboretum. For more information visit, www.fona.org
